What BMW says about it
This value indicates the current charging status of the vehicle at the time of data collection. For example, NOCHARGING means that the vehicle's high-voltage battery is currently not being charged. INITIALIZATION means that the charging process is just being prepared, while CHARGINGACTIVE means that the battery is just being charged. Other possible values are: CHARGINGPAUSED (charging paused), CHARGINGENDED (charging ended) and CHARGINGERROR (charging error).

In Home Assistant
BavarianData creates an entity called “Charging EV Charging state” for it, with the right unit and device class. For it to receive values, the descriptor has to be switched on in BMW's Data Selection; the setup wizard does that in one click.
